The Arabian oryx lives in desert and arid environments.
The Arabian oryx originally ranged through Syria, Iraq, Palestine/Israel, Jordan, Sinai and the Arabian Peninsula. It became extinct in the wild in Egypt (Sinai), Iraq, Kuwait, Syria, the UAE, Yemen and elsewhere, then was reintroduced to the wild in Oman (1982), Jordan (1983) and central Saudi Arabia (1990); MDD lists it today in Israel, Oman and Saudi Arabia, with captive breeding stock in Bahrain, Lebanon, Qatar, the UAE and other countries.

The Arabian oryx historically disappeared from the wild and was then returned to protected areas through captive-breeding and reintroduction programmes, so it is not currently described as extinct in the wild.
