The Egyptian spiny-tailed lizard comprises three subspecies: the nominate subspecies in Egypt and surrounding areas; microlepis in the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula; and leptieni in Oman and the United Arab Emirates, from near Muscat across the Batinah Plain and the foothills of the Hajar Mountains to the Musandam Peninsula.
