Frankincense tree

Within Oman, the frankincense tree is native to Dhofar in the south and is also cultivated elsewhere in the country.

Frankincense trees in Dhofar face increasing pressures from overexploitation, grazing and climate change. Decreasing rainfall and rising temperatures are expected to adversely affect their regeneration, survival and population structure, potentially leading to long-term population decline.
