The fossil elephant remains from the Nefud were cautiously assigned to Palaeoloxodon cf. recki on the basis of dental and jaw fragments, including an incomplete molar and the jaw of a juvenile. The designation "cf." means that the identification is comparative and unresolved, and it does not by itself establish the full length, the form of the trunk and tusks, or the colours of the animal.
