The frankincense tree has played a central role in cultural traditions, spiritual practices, and global trade networks for more than two millennia; the frankincense trade linked southern Arabia with Mediterranean, Indian, and East Asian civilizations. UNESCO inscribed the Land of Frankincense in Dhofar as a World Heritage Site, including the protected Wadi Dawkah frankincense forest.
