In Arabian waters, bottlenose dolphins have been recorded from the western Arabian Gulf to the UAE, in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, and in the Red Sea including the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba; they are the most common cetaceans in the Arabian Gulf. However, the review indicates that they may comprise two species, the common and the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, and that their taxonomy needs revision.
