Banana

A study published in 2023 examined eight samples of five common banana cultivars in Jazan: Baladi, Red, American, Indian and French, from Fifa, Dhamadh and Beesh. DNA-fingerprinting analyses associated clustering more with cultivar name than collection location; Baladi and French shared one STRUCTURE group but were distinguished by principal coordinate analysis.

An AFLP DNA-fingerprinting study published in 2023 examined Red banana among Jazan cultivars. Its results suggested possible hybrid ancestry involving the American and Indian cultivars; this is an inference from genetic analysis, rather than direct proof of parentage.
