Methanopyrus kandleri

The proteins of Methanopyrus kandleri strain AV19 contain an unusually high proportion of negatively charged amino acids, which may be an adaptation to high intracellular salinity.

In strain 116 of Methanopyrus kandleri, high hydrostatic pressure raised the upper limit for cell proliferation from 116 °C at 0.4 MPa to 122 °C at 20 MPa.
