The veiled chameleon is sexually dimorphic: the male has a larger body and a taller casque (head crest), is born with a spur on the heel of the hind foot that makes it easy to sex, reaches 43–61 cm in length including the tail, and on maturity develops turquoise, yellow, orange, green and black colours. The female has a smaller head and casque and a heavier body, is 25–36 cm long, and is green mottled with tan, orange and white.
