Eastern sandfish

This skink (sandfish) is distinguished by smooth dorsal scales and 26 to 30 scales around mid-body, and its adults and young lack a distinct dorsal pattern, being either almost uniform in colour or finely dappled with lighter and darker spots, with dark bars or spots on the flanks of most adults.

This skink (sandfish) is less than 30 cm long, with smooth, glossy skin and a duck-bill-shaped snout that makes digging in sand easier; its limbs and tail are short, and it can "swim" very fast through the sand, which makes it hard to see.
