Plain Tiger

The wing pattern of the male and the female is largely similar, but the male has a black scent patch on the hindwing in the basal third of vein Cu2 that the female lacks, and males are generally slightly smaller than females: the wingspan is 6.8–7.6 cm in males and 7.0–7.8 cm in females.

In the subspecies Danaus chrysippus chrysippus, the forewings are orange with a broad black margin near the apex and white spots. The Singapore National Parks Board has documented two colour forms in it: form chrysippus with orange hindwings and form alcippoides with white hindwings. This is a documented colour variation within the stated subspecies and does not in itself indicate a separate animal species.
