Body form

The mature larva of the plain tiger butterfly is white in ground colour, with a black band on each body segment and yellow spots, and has a white head bearing black triangular markings. This anatomical appearance differs from the form of the winged adult butterfly.

Adaptation

The plain tiger bears conspicuous warning colours, but its colours and the amount of its defensive chemicals vary between individuals and populations, so not all are equally toxic.
