A spiny bush or small tree 2–3 m tall with short, sharp spines and elliptic leaves 5–8 cm long on narrowly winged petioles. Flowers are white; the fruit is round or ovoid, 2.5–5 cm across, greenish yellow when ripe, thin-skinned, with greenish, very acid pulp.
