Apricot (Prunus armeniaca, called Armeniaca vulgaris in Flora of China) is a tree in the family Rosaceae, cultivated for its edible fruit in China and many temperate regions. In a 2016 statement, the European Food Safety Authority warns that apricot kernels contain amygdalin, which converts to cyanide after ingestion. This warning concerns the kernels inside the hard stone and does not apply to normal consumption of the apricot fruit flesh.
