A study published in 2021 reports the increasingly widespread introduction of drip-irrigated olive (Olea europaea) cultivation in Al Jabal Al Akhdar in northern Oman.
GRIN treats Olea europaea broadly, including several subspecies, and records native areas in the Mediterranean region, parts of Africa and nearby Indian Ocean islands, as well as Saudi Arabia and Yemen. It records naturalization in Australia, New Zealand and parts of the United States and notes wide cultivation. This list does not mean that every subspecies or cultivated variety occupies all those areas.
