An erect annual herb 30–80 cm tall with a taproot to 80 cm and trifoliate leaves toothed in the upper half; sessile axillary flowers, single or paired, with a creamy or pale yellow corolla violet at the base; the legume is long-conical (7–12 cm) with a beak up to 2 cm and 10–20 brown seeds.
