Baker's yeast isolates have been found in primary and secondary forests across the world, with notable prevalence in Asia, and in the fermentation of several beverages including wine, beer, sake and tequila. The studies reviewed indicate a single out-of-China origin; wild isolates were sampled in Taiwanese forests, one isolate comes from agave distillation in Mexico, and samples come from French Guiana.
